Eel Garden is a shore-access freediving site on the Assalah coast of Dahab in the Gulf of Aqaba, northern Red Sea, Egypt. It is known for its dense colonies of garden eels on a gently sloping sandy bottom, coral boulders, and reef sections that support diverse marine life including barracuda, puffers, flounders, Napoleon wrasse, rays, turtles, and a variety of soft and hard corals. Local dive centers in Dahab offer briefings and access to the site.
Visibility: generally 20–40 m at the dive site
Depth Range: approx. 1 – 30 m, commonly 5 – 25 m for dives
Water Temperature: approx. 22 – 29 °C depending on season
Water Conditions: can be calm to moderate with potential currents; shore entry best on low wind/high tide
Seasonality: best diving conditions typically in spring and autumn months, and generally accessible year-round with variable wind and sea conditions
Transportation: Eel Garden is located a few hundred metres north of the centre of Dahab near the Lighthouse area. It is accessed from shore by walking or a short drive from Dahab’s main road, followed by a brief walk across the reef plate to the entry point; typical approach from central Dahab is a few minutes by taxi or pickup vehicle.
